Research tells us that in reality there is no problem with money, because just 2% of companies say that investing in cybersecurity
It's a resource issue. The problem is not being unaware of its importance because over 60% say it is an essential aspect for their business. But for some strange reason an equation has arisen in SMEs whereby data protection, on which they have spent money to comply with European regulations, has been made to coincide with cybersecurity
.
Another alarming fact is that 73,3% of companies do not know what an attack is ransomware
while 43% do not have an IT security manager. 26% have almost no protection systems and only 1 company in 4 (22%) has a "segmented" or more secure network. Furthermore, less than half of those interviewed (48%) know the phishing
even though it is the cyber attack most suffered by Italian SMEs (12% declared they had suffered it).
Compliance is fundamental for regulatory compliance: around 50% of companies have a company regulation in which they write to employees how to use the devices. On the other hand, 72% do not carry out training actions in the field of cybersecurity
and when he does so he typically entrusts them to the Data Protection Officer, therefore with a strong orientation towards data protection.
Another significant element: less than one in 3 companies carries out periodic checks on the security of its IT systems, perhaps through audits Penetration Test
.
For one company out of 5 interviewed cybersecurity
it is of little importance in the management of their business and the vast majority (61%) of these say this because they do not believe they are processing sensitive data. Almost 73% of the companies interviewed do not organize training sessions for employees on IT risks and the precautions to be taken.
Moving from the level of knowledge to concrete actions, the unpreparedness of small and medium-sized Italian companies on the safety front emerges even more. cybersecurity
. The relative majority of companies interviewed (45%) have not carried out audits of corporate IT security in the past and do not plan to do so in the future.
“The picture that emerges from this study is anything but reassuring. There is no culture of cybersecurit
y as regards small and medium-sized businesses and this is even more worrying if you consider that we are referring to 95% of Italian businesses. There is a clear gap between real risk and perceived risk and this often depends on the absence of resources dedicated to this topic", declares Agnusdei, underlining that it is necessary "first of all to create a culture: make companies aware of the risks they run and create the conditions so that this risk situation can be remedied. Small and medium-sized businesses most of the time do not have the necessary resources: it is therefore important that the market identifies scalable solutions that can be applied to multiple businesses easily and with a consultancy approach".
