Saudi Arabia Reaffirms Commitment to Bridging Global Divides, Leading Energy Transition and Inclusive Economic Growth at WEF23

Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its commitment to building bridges across geopolitical and economic divides at the WEF 2023 Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland last week.

His Excellency Prince FAISAL BIN FARHAN AL SAUD, Minister of Foreign Affairs, led the Saudi delegation of nine ministers and high-level officials, and told the world that geopolitical stability is the key to energy security, and the Kingdom is “became the meeting place between East and West”.

Towards a bond of resilient urban resources

During the week, Saudi Arabia hosted a dialogue titled “Towards a resilient urban resource bond,” with key international public and private sector stakeholders from regional and global organizations discussing the sustainability of cities of the future.

His Excellency Prince FAISAL, His Excellency Royal Princess REEMA, His Excellency ALSWAHA, His Excellency ALKHORAYEF and His Excellency ALIBRAHIM attended a multilateral meeting with the leadership of the WEF, KLAUS SCHWAB, Founder and Executive Chairman, and BØRGE BRENDE, President, to explore areas of mutual interest.

During the meeting, His Excellency ALSWAHA, Chairman of the Board of King ABDULAZIZ City for Science and Technology (KACST) and Chairman of the Board of Research, Development and Innovation Authority (RDIA) and Brende , signed a letter of commitment to set up a new accelerator program to boost the start of innovation in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi delegates stressed the Kingdom's role as a leading companion in the Forum's global cooperation village, which will harness the Metaverse to serve the global community.

Separately, the Ministry of Investment, in coordination with the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, organized a high-level dialogue for executives from the energy, petrochemical and mining sectors to discuss the impact of the transition energy, the role of the petrochemical industries and the investments needed to reach net zero by 2060.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Economy and Planning, in collaboration with the WEF's open innovation platform, UpLink, has launched a challenge to gather transformative solutions to ensure local food in countries affected by low rainfall, drought and desertification.

The Challenge for Food Ecosystems and Arid Climates is a global invitation to food entrepreneurs, startups, social initiatives and small and medium-sized enterprises to present solutions incorporating low or high technologies or ancestral responses.
