Netlogistics , a leader in powerful services that drive companies toward digital supply chain transformation, recently held an Innovation Day 2023 where valued customers and partners gave presentations and participated in panel discussions covering the latest industry trends and innovations. supply chain
. Executives from Arcadia Cold, Cycle Labs, Terracycle and others shared their insights.
“We are happy to share the insights we gathered at Innovation Day from customer and partner presentations,” says Jagan Reddy, managing partner of Netlogistik. “Many of these businesses use Blue Yonder technologies to run their own supply chain
and we are happy to implement solutions for faster time to value.”
Below is a summary of some of the presentations:
- Chris Hughes, President and CEO, Arcadia Cold.
- Unique Cold Storage Challenges:
- Significant inventory storage: Current inventories cannot adequately serve the 70% of U.S. consumers who purchased food online as of 2022.
- The average age of current facilities is 42 years, with obsolete and inefficient systems.
- Cold storage systems require specific skills for their construction and operation.
- Top players grow through acquisitions, but acquire obsolete assets instead of modernizing new developments.
- Arcadia is addressing the current widespread shortage of cold chain suppliers by developing new, modern and well-managed cold storage assets, always placing the customer at the center of everything the company does.
- Netlogistik has implemented Blue Yonder WMS, TMS, Yard Management and Labor Management systems to provide real-time visibility and reporting throughout the supply chain.
- Josh Owen, CEO of Cycle Labs, a provider of automated testing platforms for supply chains, discussed why the supply chain needs leaders.
- It's hard to inspire someone, but it's much easier to find other inspired people and bring them together when you want to make a change. Hang out with people who see things differently. How do you see the world differently?
- The Ford plant assembly line changed the way plants worked and their idea was to do your job, do it exactly like you did it yesterday and do it faster and cheaper. The plants grew larger, and as they grew, so did the systems.
- With mass production came the need for mass distribution. Our jobs in
supply chain
will they be industrialized? Many have already done so. But instead of theartificial intelligence takes our jobs away, we should worry about losing them to people who know how to useartificial intelligence.
- The world has changed and will continue to change, so we must progress. We need to listen to the people who paint a picture of what the future would look like if we took action. MLK gave people the motivation to act on their inspiration. The supply chain doesn't need more managers; it needs leaders.
- And we need progress; we need innovation. The time to change is now, before problems arise. When you do this, you can create change. Innovation occurs through cooperation and collaboration, collective intelligence and the networking of knowledge and ideas.
- James O'Neil, Vice President of Business Optimization, Terracycle, discussed Rethinking Recycling: Innovative Solutions for a Sustainable Future.
- Eliminate the idea of waste: take paths and find new ways to reuse it, create things with recycled materials, recycle unique waste streams, collect waste and plastic in rivers and canals, and make things reusable through Loop. They work with retailers and CPG companies to convert their products from single-use packaging to durable, reusable packaging.
- Case study: Bausch + Lomb – contact lens recycling.
- Recycling Hub at Walmart: Redesigned a container and put it in the parking lot. The hub accepts 12 different waste streams, from cosmetics to toys.
- Subaru Park, home of the Philadelphia Union football team, diverts 100% of its waste from landfills.
- Loop is a global platform for reuse where manufacturers can create reusable and returnable packaging products, and any retailer can sell those products to consumers in a buy anywhere, return anywhere program. Cyclically transition packages from single-use to reuse.
